ABOUT US

Built in 1892 by a wealthy local merchant Granite Villa is an imposing traditional Victorian house that has retained many of its' original features, notably the tiled entrance hall. It first became a guesthouse in 1960 and as a result has a long tradition of providing hospitality to visitors.

There is a large lounge on the ground floor looking out over the front garden where guests can relax in front of the open fire while reading the daily papers that are available. Guests are free to bring their own wine or spirits and glasses are always available upon request. We are also happy to provide complimentary tea or coffee in the lounge for the convenience of our guests. A well equipped games chest (board games, jigsaws, cards etc) is also located in the lounge, which guests both young and old are welcome to raid if they would like some entertainment.

There is wifi access in the house for those guests with suitably enabled laptops. There is no charge for using this facility.

The Dining room is also on the ground floor looking out over the front garden. In keeping with our ethos that the only rule of the house is to make yourself at home. we have a very flexible breakfast policy. If you would like breakfast before 8am we ask that you let us know what time you require it. Otherwise breakfast is from 8am to 10am. If for any reason you would like breakfast later than 10am let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you. With prior notice we will do everything we can to meet specific dietary requirements.

The garden provides numerous areas where guests can sit out and enjoy the long summer evenings that we enjoy this far north. For the comfort of our guests we acquired a midge machine last year and we can confirm that they really do work, allowing guests to sit out without the discomfort of being attacked by the dreaded Scottish midge.

We also provide a large off street car park, which is floodlit by security lights at night. There is also covered secure storage for bikes and other sports equipment if required as well as drying facilites. If needed, we will happily provide spare beach towels to guests staying for more than one night.

Children are more than welcome and we can provide a cot and high chair if required.

Guests are welcome to bring a dog with them as long as prior notification is given.

We have corporate membership at the local leisure centre which allows guests to use the facilities free of charge.
